The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee seeks volunteer Parade Marshals to assist with the 2006 Parade. If you are willing to serve, please complete the Volunteer Registration Packet/Application. If you have questions not answered on this page, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator via email at Volunteers@KeepAustinFun.com. Include your full name, address and daytime phone number with your message.

Basic duties of Parade Marshals:

  • Be pleasant and helpful!
  • Answer questions from spectators. (The Parade Committee will provide a list of Frequently Asked Questions, with answers.)
  • Keep the spectators out of the Parade route. Parade Marshals will help maintain the curb line, and prevent spectators from moving into the street.
  • We also need volunteers to help out with security. The duties of the security team mostly consist of directing people, reuniting lost kids with worried parent's, or checking ID's at the Beer Garden. If there are any problems it is their job to call one of the police officers on site, they are to have telephones for this purpose.

For additional information, see Volunteering Details and Volunteering FAQ below.

Volunteering FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How important is the training session?
• A: We encourage all new Parade Marshals to attend. We introduce you to some of the Block Captains as well as convey important parade information.

Q: If I can't make the training session, can I still volunteer?
• A: You can still volunteer, but we strongly encourage you to attend the training session. If you miss it, you will need to contact our volunteer coordinator to receive any important information that is missed. If you are a member of a larger group, we prefer that all group members attend, but if that is not possible, your group representatives must be present to gather and share the information with you.

Q: On parade day, where do I check-in?
• A: Please see the Volunteer registration Packet for this information.

Q: Where should I park?
• A: Parking accommodations for volunteers have not been determined yet.

Q: How long will I be needed on Parade Day?
• A: Please see the Volunteer Registration Packet for this information.

Q: Are the two training sessions mandatory?
• A: It is mandatory that you attend one of the training sessions.

Q: Will food or drinks be provided to the Parade Marshals?
• A: No. Please bring your own snacks and beverages.

Q: Name three things I'll wish I'd brought with me to volunteer on Parade day.
• A: This would depend on the weather. For a cold day, you'll want to bring a warm hat, warm gloves, and warm shoes. For a sunny day, you'll want to bring sunglasses, suntan lotion, and a hat. For a rainy day,… Remember — the parade goes on rain, shine or snow.

Q: Is there a dress code?
• A: The Parade Committee will furnish either a Parade Marshal T-shirt, cap, sweatshirt or jacket to be worn over your own clothing. It is yours to keep after the event concludes.
